I am delighted to report that my new book THEOLOGY ABLAZE is a “hot” item in the Unitarian Universalist cosmos right now. Folks are buying it for individual nourishment as well as covenant group discussion. The core of the book unfolds theological themes (29 of them) ranging from evil to God, justice to sabbath, love to evolution. The new President and CEO of our Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, The Rev. Dr. William F. Schulz, has written the Foreword.

The premise of the book is simple: Unitarian Universalist theology has caught fire in the past 50 years. In the decades since merger, Unitarian Universalism has been maturing spiritually. We’ve been growing in theological literacy, dialogue, and depth. We acknowledge that everyone in our fold is a bona fide theologian.

Our brand of progressive theology is sorely needed in the 21st century. As a life-affirming, liberating, and loving religion, Unitarian Universalism stands ready to heal the spirit while reforming society.

You will want this book on OUR theology for personal and congregational use.

Yours in the advancement of our grand faith…

Rev. Tom Owen-Towle

In our world of relentless jostling for survival, where we’re buried with trivia and trauma, we all covet moments to catch our breath and rejuvenate our weary, worn beings.

Breathing is an activity destined for self-nourishment, but it also constitutes our main link with all existence. For the same air flows in and out of the lungs of all living things.

So, why not launch every morn by reciting some version of the mantra of Thich Nhat Hanh: “Breathing in, I calm my body and mind. Breathing out, I smile.”

Having every one of the 75 trillion cells in our bodies breathing more slowly and harmoniously is decisive to a hale and holy day.

Breathing in, breathing out…

Blessings and cheers, Tom Owen-Towle

Pleasantly Surprised

Since my new book, THEOLOGY ABLAZE, has been published and promoted, I am pleasantly surprised that folks from my high school, college, and seminary years (over 50 years and counting!) have learned about this book on a life-affirming, liberating, and loving religion and are ordering it. It also grants me an opportunity to reconnect with some long-lost friends.

In this stage in our lives, we are trying to be “elder” not merely “older”.

Let’s hear it for graying gracefully.

From my heart to yours, Tom O-T

My New Book on Theology has Arrived

My new book, entitled THEOLOGY ABLAZE: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary Year of Unitarian Universalism, has just arrived and copies are now available. This volume explores 29 classic themes such as God and death, silence and forgiveness, evil and justice, love and evolution…with questions for both personal reflection and group discussion.

This book is my essential work on Unitarian Universalist theology, and I’m very excited about it. The Rev. Dr. William Schulz, President and CEO of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, has written the Foreword.

Although this blog posting is all new to me, I plan to add a contribution weekly.

Cheers and blessings,

Tom O-T
